It's been a month already into the 7 month project...every day I have worn my raw denim jeans and I love them! 34 days in and they're like a second skin. I actually look forward to throwing them on in the morning. Maybe it's a bit like a security blanket would be...they hug me.
When I went in for my jeans fitting in September, I had a very hard time narrowing down the "just right" brand and style choice. I'm the type that cannot make decisions easily, hence the 1 1/2 hours in the dressing room vacillating over the perfect pair to wear for 7 months. That’s a pretty big decision to make, right? The Blue7 staff were fantastic, patient and made it a lot of fun. My favorite pairs I tried on were an ankle length super cute boyfriend style (Naked and Famous), then I changed my mind to the stiffer raw denim skinnies (Cult of Individuality and Imogine & Willie), but finally decided on the last pair I tried on...the magnificent black high-waisted tight stretch fit of the NEUW MARILYN SKINNY BLACK RAW DENIM. There were a lot of pros and cons I had to weight through in deciding, but I think wearing these for 7 months I will have no worries in the style department. They are gorgeous! I love them! And I sure am hoping at the end of the project in April I’m saying the exact same thing!
ABOUT MY NEUW DENIM
Inspired by vintage denim designs and punk music...of course.
The cool story behind the jeans: Originally named Nieuwlandstraat, the business was created by Par Lundqvist just in 2010, who had previously been a product developer for Lee. Using the street name that he lived on Nieuwland Straat in Belgium, the company name was later shorted to the cleaner simpler "Neuw".
Par was a huge collector or vintage denim. In the early days before starting his own company, he would cut up his own vintage jeans to have a modern fit, which he coined the concept called Vintage Revision. He has a collection of hundreds of pairs of worn in vintage jeans, by the way. These design characteristics he created were naturally integrated into the Neuw standard.
Based on raw, black 1950s denim. Specs include a Triple Dye that creates a deep, saturated pitch black shade. The 11.5 oz fabric (98% cotton, 2% spandex) with super soft hand-feel is developed with one thing in mind…”to create the most flattering jean possible. Sharp and dark. Fits like a glove.”. And, they’re not kidding that they fit like a glove…they are so freaking comfortable and are so flattering!
Some of the thoughtful features to this brand that are also a part of their cool story:
- There is a reinforced saddle-stitching on the back pockets. In looking through Par’s collection of worn vintage denim, a common thread was the hole worn in the corner of all the pockets. This will help with wearing holes in the corners, like from stuffing a iPhone back there.
- Every pair of their jeans has a small ring attached to a front belt loop. It’s in memory of the pocket watch Par used to wear that was given to him by his grandfather. At some point in his partying years in Stockholm, the watch was broken off and all that remained was the fastening ring that he kept as a memento which was attached to the belt loop. So, this was added as a small personal homage to his style and to his grandfather.
- The ankle dart…In making his old denim a more modern silhouette, the legs had to be slimmed and tapered (which brings up fond memories of my 80’s youth when we tapered the ankles of our baggy Guess and Girbaud jeans), which became another design aspect of the Neuw pairs.
In essence, this brand is pure awesome and I want everything they make! I totally and fully endorse this brand and these jeans! I heart big time! I'm already considering which pair to wear next year...eek!
